YD Interviews The Fresh Fiends

Recently I had the opportunity to interview Lady La, Miss.Summer and Shew of the Fresh Fiends. If you haven't visited their site already, I urge you to do so now! These ladies will keep you in the know of everything related to beauty, fashion and anything cool.

(L to R: Miss.Summer, Lady La and Shew)

How did the Fresh Fiends get started?

Summer: “It really just started with me wanting to style La in some photos for a small project. We just sat down one day and thought of something to do that could be a creative outlet for us as well as raise some awareness on women's issues that were important to us. We brought Shew on board and that's when the magic happened! Three really is the magic number!”

What are the FF up to at the moment? Any exciting projects?

“We're working on revamping the website and focusing on our branding. Besides that we like to keep everything top secret. That is our recipe for success.”

What are some of your favorite FF memories?

“Throwing our first major party at Doc's Place last year. We had a great turnout! Each photo shoot we do has its own special meaning to us as well!”

Are there any current issues or causes that the FF are passionate about right now (whether it’s locally, nationally or globally)?

“There are too many to name. Beyond the obvious current affairs of our home state, FF likes to consistently raise awareness on all women's issues. Whether it be throwing a party to benefit a charity or just writing about a topic that reaches a girl on a personal level.”

What are some of the “best kept secrets” in or around the Valley?

“We love Fattoush, Bikini Lounge, and The Clothing Company.”

If you could meet and interview one person for the FF site, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

“Notorious B.I.G., Prince, Bob Marley, and Lady Gaga. They’re all icons who stood/stand for something beyond themselves.”

What is some of the best advice someone’s ever given you?

“Don't plan in front of an audience.”

What is some of the best advice you could give someone?

“Learn to STAY humble. It's pretty hard sometimes.”

What is your passion driving you in your field?

“Being the voice of the “everyday woman”. There is too much emphasis on perfection in society. We root for the underdog and promote INTEGRITY.”

What has been the best moment of your career thus far?

“When we received our first email from a reader saying "You changed my life". That was pretty powerful.”

Around The Way Girl - Yardley December x Fresh Fiends collaboration

I know the Fresh Fiends are all about “sisterHOOD” - who are some women you really look up to and why?

“Moms, grannies, sisters, aunties, cousins, girlfriends... all everyday women that have their own story to tell. And Kelly Cutrone.”

What is the one thing you cannot live without?

“Music. Hands down.”

If a movie was made about you, who would you want to play your character and why?

La: “Ciara because she probably has as much acting ability as I do. And she has the body I want. She's tomboy-ish and the only thing that exists that remotely compares to Aaliyah.”

Summer: “Bai Ling because we look similar to each other and she's a total weirdo like me.”

Shew: “Angelina Jolie because of her classic beauty and elegance.”

What are some of your biggest accomplishments?

“Reaching girls on a personal level.”

What’s in your purse?

“Everything from bananas (La gets antsy if she doesn't eat) and makeup to gum and business cards. The usual everyday stuff. It's different depending on where we go.”

What’s your favorite fashion trend at the moment?

“More so a beauty trend, but we're loving Creative Nail Design's Shellac Hybrid Nail Color. It's the answer to anyone looking for a chip resistant manicure for 2 whole weeks. Fashion wise we have our own signature STYLES versus trends. We like to think we're pretty classic in that aspect.”

What is your ultimate favorite piece of clothing in your entire wardrobe?

“We're loving long flowing tees and tanks for the summer.”

What do you like most and/or least about your job as a Fresh Fiend?

“There is nothing we DON'T like about being Fresh Fiends. What we love most is seeing how much love and support we get from girls we don't even know.”

Tell me one interesting fact about you.
La: “I competed in the state spelling bee competition in 7th grade. I'm infatuated with words.”

Summer: “I sang back up in my dad's cover band at Big Surf (a local water park) when I was 6. The song was "Raspberry Beret" by Prince.”

Shew: “I was in the gifted program in elementary school.”
